Euan Corrie looks through some photographs from the album of Norman Hurst, whose family lived at Church Lock near Leighton Buzzard in the late 1950s

Two canal workers take a break at Church Lock, just south of Leighton Buzzard on the Grand Junction Canal. Mr Foster (right) and Mr Pantlin worked on the section up ‘the fields’ from Grove Lock and had been scything the grass. The towpath changes sides here and horses coming up from Leighton had to cross the turnover bridge below the lock and walk along where the two men are sitting, on the site of the duplicate (narrow) lock chamber. …
